La Baratta's vineyards and the work in vineyard
Our vineyards are cultivated following the strict regulations imposed by the European Union for biological vine-growing.
The inspections for checking that these regulations are respected are carried out by ICEA (the Environmental and Ethical Certification Institute), a body recognized by the Ministry for Agricultural Policies.
Fertilization is based on the use of organic substances: manure, by-products from the processing of fruit-juice and of beetroot, and compost, obtained from the maceration of animal and vegetable substances. To combat the two main fungal pathogens (downy mildew and powdery mildew) copper and sulphate salts are used just like years ago. Weed killers are naturally not permitted. Weeds are eliminated under the rows of vines while the inter-rows are left covered with grass so as to allow entry into the vineyard also in the case of wet ground, as well as for the fact that the grass hosts a whole series of useful insects that are predators of pests and parasites for the vines.
